Empowering Educators: Bringing AI into the Classroom at ICS Iraq

Written by: Hiba Zneit, SEEDS Champion at ICS Iraq

The beginning of a new school year is a time for fresh ideas and new opportunities to grow. During induction week at ICS Iraq, I had the opportunity to lead a session for teachers focused on one of the most relevant developments in education today: Artificial Intelligence (AI).

As a SEEDS Champion, my goal was not simply to introduce AI, but to encourage teachers to think about how it can be used effectively, responsibly, and purposefully in education.

Moving Beyond “Using AI”

We discussed how AI can support teachers with lesson planning, differentiation, resource creation, adapting materials, generating ideas, and feedback, while emphasizing that AI should enhance good teaching, not replace it.

Teachers also explored the importance of professional judgment, including checking AIgenerated information, protecting student privacy, and ensuring resources are appropriate for their learners.

Introducing the SEEDS Hub

A key part of the session was introducing teachers to the SEEDS Hub through a practical demonstration lesson. Rather than simply explaining the platform, I showed how its resources and tools could be applied directly to classroom teaching.

The response was very positive, with teachers finding the Hub practical and relevant to their everyday needs.

Learning by Doing

Teachers also had the opportunity to experiment with AI and explore how providing context, learning objectives, student needs, and desired outcomes can improve the quality of AIgenerated responses.

The session encouraged teachers to move beyond simple prompts and think about how AI can be adapted to their own subjects and classrooms.

Building AI Literacy

The conversations that followed were just as valuable as the activities themselves. Teachers shared questions, experiences, and concerns, highlighting the importance of developing AI literacy among educators.

As AI continues to influence how we learn, work, and communicate, educators have an important role in helping students use technology critically, ethically, and responsibly.

Being a SEEDS Champion is not simply about introducing new technology. It is about helping educators feel confident to explore, experiment, share ideas, and find meaningful ways to improve teaching and learning.

This session was a strong start to the school year and, hopefully, the beginning of many more conversations and practical applications of AI at ICS Iraq.

AI is a tool. The real impact comes from how thoughtfully we choose to use it.
